OHEH 2016 Congress Awards

Awards offered at the OHEH 2016 Congress are a great opportunity to be recognised for outstanding research in both One Health and EcoHealth fields as well as outstanding contribution to a particular field. 

If you wish to be considered for an Award, please complete the relevant section of the online abstract submission form.

The Award categories are as follows:
1. Best Poster Presentation – Student
2. Best Oral Presentation – Student
3. Outstanding Contribution to the Field of EcoHealth
4. Exceptional Early Career Contribution to the Field of EcoHealth
5. Outstanding Contribution to the Fields of EcoHealth & One Health
6. Exceptional Early Career Contribution to the Fields of EcoHealth and One Health

Please read the details and eligibility criteria listed below. 

 

Best Poster Presentation - Student

 Eligibility:

  1. The student must be the first author on the research poster;
  2. This individual must identify themselves as a student when submitting their abstract;
  3. This individual must be a student at the time of the One Health EcoHealth Congress 2016; and
  4. If students are to be eligible they must participate in the peer review process in a ‘judging pair’.

Judging Criteria:

Context, Objective, and Creativity (20 marks)

  • Importance of research, objectives, questions, and aims presented clearly and succinctly (10 marks)
  • Research presented makes a valuable, original contribution to the field of One Health and EcoHealth (10 marks)

Appearance and Presentation (10 marks) 

  • Poster is clear, appropriate and visually pleasing (5 marks)
  • Student communicates clearly; eye contact with audience/judges; answers to audience/judges questions effectively and with adequate (5 marks)

Scientific (30 marks)

  • Introduction and background adequately sets the stage for the study referring to key scholarly literature (10 marks)
  • Methods are succinct and described clearly; appropriate design and analysis to address objectives of study (5 marks)
  • Results tackle the study objectives; clear, concise, and relevant (5 marks)
  • Conclusions are sound, logical, and supported by results (10 mark)

Best Oral Presentation - Student

Outstanding Contribution to the Field of EcoHealth

Applications for Outstanding Contribution to the Field of EcoHealth award is now closed. 

The International Association for Ecology & Health (IAEH) is a professional organization that promotes
research, education and practice (including policy development) on the linkage between health of all
species and ecosystem sustainability and resilience.

Criteria:

The Outstanding Contribution to the Field of EcoHealth award honors the contributions of an advanced
researcher who has developed an outstanding body of EcoHealth work or has made sustained contributions
of extraordinary merit to the field of EcoHealth. Nominees must be a member of the International
Association for Ecology and Health. The awardee will have exemplified the objectives of the Association
through any or all of the following: key publications in scientific journals or other scholarly media outlets,
dissemination of knowledge in multiple forums (e.g. science-based advocacy, practical application of
scientific knowledge, and/or educational initiatives), peer recognition by invitations to speak or contribute
to special sessions, sustained influence on others to achieve and advance the field of EcoHealth, and
recognized leadership in the field of EcoHealth.

Nomination packages consist of:

a) A brief cover letter from the person(s) making the nomination, confirmation that the nominee is aware
they have been nominated;

b) A one page description of the nominee(s), describing which award they have been nominated for, the
basis for their nomination and how they fulfill the criteria outlined above;

c) A full curriculum vitae of the nominee with complete contact details;

d) At least two additional supporting letters that detail their contribution to the field. Note these
supporting letters should not come from the same institution as the nominee or the person(s) making
the nomination.

Award winners will be notified in advance of the presentations of the awards at the 2016 Congress in
Melbourne and will be expected to be members of the Association at the time of receiving the award.
Members of the Board of the IAEH are not eligible for Nomination.

The nomination deadline for the award is May 6th, 2016 and nomination package should be sent to
secretariat@ecohealth.net

Exceptional Early Career Contribution to the Field of EcoHealth

Applications for Exceptional Early Career Contribution to the Field of EcoHealth is now closed. 

The International Association for Ecology & Health (IAEH) is a professional organization that promotes
research, education and practice (including policy development) on the linkage between health of all
species and ecosystem sustainability and resilience.

Criteria:

The Exceptional Early Career Contribution to the Field of EcoHealth award recognizes a promising
researcher who has demonstrated the potential to advance the field of EcoHealth. Nominees for this
award should be within 10 years of completing their Ph.D and be a member of the International Association
for Ecology and Health. The award recipient will have shown evidence of professional excellence as
represented by a combination of any or all of the following: key publications in scientific journals or other
scholarly media outlets, peer recognition by invitations to speak or contribute to special sessions,
excellence in communication of scientific knowledge to the media, public, or other stakeholders,
involvement in education in the field of EcoHealth, stated academic career goals and/or participation in
groups or organizations designed to further the mission and/or objectives of the Association.

Nomination packages consist of:

a) A brief cover letter from the person(s) making the nomination, confirmation that the nominee is aware
they have been nominated;

b) A one page description of the nominee(s), describing which award they have been nominated for, the
basis for their nomination and how they fulfill the criteria outlined above;
